1. My daughters are 10 & 6, are they old enough for this course or at what age do you recommend?  We do not have an age recommendation.  Our only requirement is that they can swim 50 feet using any stroke.

2.  How much is the class?  Each two week session is $195 per student.

3.  What time does the class run?  Each LTS class is 10:00am to 12:30am rain or shine.  OPTI race camp is Monday thru Thursday 2:00PM (on the water ready to race) to 4:00PM

4.  How is the class run (group instruction, instructor/student ratio, how are they controlled in the water)?

The instructors are US Sailing certified and every class will have at least one instructor.  The assistants are young adults that have proven their sailing capability and ability to work with children while competing in the CLYC Junior Fleet.  The LTS I Introduction level class will sail in the space defined by the main dock an the power boat dock.

Instructors/assistants will be in the water and/or in a kayak/safety boat whenever the class is on the water.

5. Just got the sailing school pamphlet and it immediately occurred to me that our Juniors can't be racing and attending sailing school at the same time. What is with this schedule?

LTS should not conflict with the Jr fleet by taking crew members so that the Jr fleet does not have enough crew:  I will inform the McMillan's any time an individual (CLYC Jr member) registers for an LTS lesson.  The McMillan's will determine if this is a conflict and find a replacement crew.  If replacement crew is not available, I will attempt to have that student enroll in another session or offer private lessons (fewer hours) to make up for time lost from LTS to support the Jr fleet.

6. I have grandchildren that are 14 to 16 years old and would like to learn to sail.  What type of boat would they use for their class.

The OPTI is competitively sailed through age sixteen.  If your grandchild would prefer to sail a butterfly, we can accommodate that desire.  The Learn to Sail classes are divided into two groups depending on ability.  Both levels are taught at the same time.  We will be moving students to higher level classes as their skills improve.  We will tend to start a student in a lower level class and move them up as soon as possible.  Your student may want to start in a higher level class, but we can always move them up as they demonstrate their capabilities. We also do not want any student to feel that they are sailing with other students with higher skill level than that which is achievable in a short period of time.

7. What kind of rules and standards of behavior for the students will be enforced?  The school operates on the rules found in the "Rules of Common Sense".
