Notice of Race:
2007 WLYC Sepncer Weersing Memorial Regatta, June 16-17, 2007.
George Washington's Birthday
Regatta, 2007
Thanks to the kindness of members of the Lake
Eustis Sailing Club, five Crystal Lake Yacht Club sailors were able to
put boats in the water and participate in the 105 boat, multi-class,
George Washington's Birthday Regatta in mid-February, 2007, in Eustis,
FL. No other visiting club had more boats in the competition.
With a cold front moving through, strong breezes to 28 mph and cold
temperatures canceled out sailing on Friday and Sunday. Despite finding
ice in the bottom of the boats on Saturday morning, it turned out to be
a great sailing day with sunny skies, temperatures around 60 degrees and
winds of 10-18 mph.
Bill Cotsworth, Rob Terry (and crew Jules Jacobson), Bob Wynkoop and Jon
Pomerleau participated in the 38 boat MC Fleet, sailing two races in the
morning and one in the afternoon. 10-year old Pearce Pomerleau sailed in
the junior Opti's, completing 5 afternoon races during the roughest
conditions of the day.
Melges Pro Jamie Kimball of Spring Lake Yacht Club (another Michigan
sailor) dominated the event with 1,3,1 finishes. Jamie's regatta recap
is available at
http://www.melges.com/2007eustis.html.
MC Fleet results are available at the MC Class website
http://www.mcscow.org/.
Despite the valiant efforts of the CLYC MC's, the only sailor carrying
hardware home was our Junior Fleet sailor, Pearce.
